Borden W. Hoffman
Borden W. Hoffman lived to be 100 years old. He was born on January 8, 1919 to Louise (Koppe) and Borden O. Hoffman in Philadelphia. He attended Frankford High School in Philadelphia and upon graduation he went to work in the machine shop at Soabar Company, who made tags and labels for various enterprises. He worked in the shop for 7 years and then worked his way up to become the Purchasing Agent for the company. He retired from Soabar after 44 years of employment. During those years there were two interruptions, one in 1948 and one in 1952, while he served for the Army in Korea.
Upon moving to Horrocks Street in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, he met Mary who lived next door. The romance began, and they were married on September 11, 1943. Borden was 24 and Mary was 21. They have two daughters Jeanne born in1949 and Joyce born in 1951.
They lived on Albion Street in Winchester Park for 60 years, before moving to Gloria Dei Farms in Hatboro in 2007. They lived there independently until 2017, and then moved to Personal Care at The Park in September 2017.
Borden especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He and Mary traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and spent most summers vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey. He enjoyed all holiday celebrations with his family, and loved gardening, hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was a member of the Kiwanis and American Red Cross and a member of All Saints Church, Torresdale, where he served the Vestry.
Borden is survived by his two daughters, Jeanne VanDerSchaaf (Glen), and Joyce Schleyer (John), his four grandchildren Virginia (Greg), Jeffrey Borden (May), Bradley Jennifer, and Chris Maria), and six great grandsons, Adam, Wesley, Parker, Brody, Cameron and Henry.
Borden was a true gentleman, who was kind to everyone. He loved to tell jokes and had a great sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
