John Pakyz
John Pakyz 3/23/1931 – 5/26/2024
John Pakyz, of Philadelphia, is survived by his devoted wife Kass (Katherine) Pakyz (nee Seikot), who he was married to for 70 years. John was the third of 7 children of the late Max and Mary Pakyz. He grew up with Max, Marty, Paul, Joseph, Daniel and Mary Schweitzer in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia.
John and Kass built their lives around their daughters Lynn Nelson (Al) (deceased 2019) and Karen Press (Bill). They cared for their 5 grandchildren Matthew Nelson (Nikki), Brian Nelson, William Press III (Ronnie), Andrew Press (Maria) and Sara Press (Mat) by taking them on vacations, trips to the movies, and hosting them for numerous overnight stays at their house. John’s family was his life, and he and Katherine have been blessed so far with 8 great grandchildren: Milo Press, Macklin Nelson, Celeste Press, Lena Press, Roxanne Blyzniuk, Maverick Nelson, Luke Press and Lily Press. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. John was an active and dedicated member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for decades.
John left high school to serve in the US Army, and was a retired employee of Rohm & Haas, where he made many friends. He rarely missed a Philadelphia Phillies or Eagles broadcast. John and Kass rarely left one another’s side and devoted their golden years to traveling the world and spending time with their grandchildren. He was a simple family man and his legacy lives on through the extended family he and Kass built.
