June Daiber
June M. Daiber, of Quincy, Massachusetts, died on August 22, 2018 at John Adams HealthCare Center in Quincy. She was 94 years old. June was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Theodore and Lillian Steigerwald and lived the first 68 years of her life in the greater Philadelphia area. She was passionate about music from an early age, excelling in ballet, piano and voice. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Pennsylvania in July of 1944, and a year later, married her next door neighbor, Dr. William F. (“Bill”) Daiber, an Osteopathic physician, on Valentine’s Day in 1945.
From 1946 to 1973, while raising a family, June assisted Bill in many aspects of his internal medicine practice in Philadelphia and Rydal, Pennsylvania. From 1973 to 1975, she served as Chairperson of the Department of Medical Secretary Sciences at the Franklin School of Science and Arts in Philadelphia, lecturing 12 hours weekly. Soon thereafter, though, she turned her attention and her career back to her greatest love, music, having already earned her State Certificate in Music Education from Temple University in 1966. In fact, June was able to combine her skills in and love of music with her interest in the healing arts, earning a Music Therapy Equivalence Certificate from the Combs College of Music in Philadelphia in 1976, followed by a Master’s Degree in Science and Health Education at St. Joseph’s University in 1981.
In the meantime, June began work at Philadelphia State Hospital (known as “Byberry”) in 1977 as a Board Certified, Registered Music Therapist, working with psychiatric residents of all ages, as well as some with sensory and physical impairments.
June retired from Byberry in 1992 and moved to Quincy, Massachusetts, where she enjoyed her retirement, was active for several years as a volunteer music therapist at the Cerebral Palsy South Shore Area Treatment Center in Quincy, and was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Milton.
June was predeceased by her husband, Bill, and is survived by her three sons: Dr. William K. Daiber (married to Colleen Daiber) of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Theodore E. Daiber (married to Joan H. Faulkner) of Milton, Massachusetts and Robin E. Daiber of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Kristine, Russell, Bill, Robyn, Elaine and Harry; and two great-grandchildren: Micah and Carolyn.
June was a wonderful and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and music therapist.
There will be a memorial Sevice in Celebration of June’s life on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 AM at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 112 Randolph Avenue, Milton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Music at St. Michael’s, c/o St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 112 Randolph Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.
