Katherine J. Pakyz

 

Katherine Pakyz 3/1/1933 – 4/5/2025

 

On April 3, 2025, we lost Kass (Katherine) Pakyz (nee Seikot), of Philadelphia, beloved wife of the late John J. Pakyz, her husband of 70 years. Katherine was the oldest of 3 children of the late Mildred and the late Frederick, growing up in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia with her late siblings Mildred and Fred.

 

Kass and John built their lives around their daughters Lynn Nelson (Al) (deceased 2019) and Karen Press (William Jr.). They cared deeply for their 5 grandchildren Matthew Nelson, Brian Nelson, William Press III (Ronnie), Andrew Press (Maria) and Sara Press (Mat) by taking them on vacations, trips to the movies, and hosting them for numerous overnight stays at their house. Kass’ family was her life, and she and John have been blessed so far with 9 great grandchildren: Milo Press, Macklin Nelson, Celeste Press, Lena Press, Roxanne Blyzniuk, Maverick Nelson, Luke Press, Lily Press and Nathaniel Press. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Kass was an active and dedicated member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for decades.

 

Kass worked at Strawbridge’s in the lamp department, she was always involved in lighting up people’s lives. She was a lifelong reader, always had a story to tell, a song to sing, or a joke to play on her loved ones. Kass and John rarely left one another’s side and devoted their golden years to traveling the world and spending time with their grandchildren.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to Katherine’s visitation Friday 4/11, 10am to 11am at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Tyson Ave and Hawthorne St. Phila, PA 19149. Her memorial service will follow at 11am. Her interment will be held in the church yard.
